Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, and More Cast Members Honor Late ‘This Is Us’ Writer Jas Waters

Jas Waters, a TV writer who worked on NBC’s hit family drama, “This Is Us," has died. She was 39.

Her death was confirmed by the show writers on their official Twitter page.

“The entire #ThisIsUs family was devastated to learn of Jas Waters passing,” the statement began.

“In our time together, Jas left her mark on us and ALL over the show. She was a brilliant storyteller and a force of nature. We send our deepest sympathies to her loved ones. She was one of us. RIP.”

The Los Angeles County Coroner ruled the June 9 death a suicide by hanging, according to E News.

The series creator, Dan Fogelman, paid tribute on Twitter writing, “Jas was absolutely brilliant and had so many stories still to tell.

He added, “She made an indelible mark on our show and my heart breaks for her loved ones.”

Mandy Moore, who plays the show’s matriarch character Rebecca Pearson, responded to Fogel’s tweet writing, "Sending love and light to @JasFly's family and loved ones."

Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Beth Pearson on the series, expressed her shock on Twitter writing, “Incredibly shocked and saddened to have just receive this news. Blessed Light, fly with the angels. @JasFly #jaswaters.”

Chrissy Metz, who plays Kate Pearson, called Jas a “fantastic writer” and “beautiful spirit.”

“I am praying for your beautiful transition, Jas. May it be full of love, light and peace. Thank you for the time we shared, your fearlessness and inspiration,” she added.

The hip hop journalist, who also went by the name Jas Fly, earned writing credits for 18 episodes of the series, according to IMDb.

She also worked on a slew of projects including Taraji P. Henson’s film “What Men Want,” Showtime’s “Kidding,” and Comedy Central’s “Hood Adjacent with James Davis.”
